8/17/2011 - IMPORTANT UPDATE ON ARISTOTLE EMAIL SERVICE INTERRUPTION

PLEASE NOTE: NONE OF YOUR EMAIL IS LOST
PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE CONTACTING ARISTOTLE TECHNICAL SUPPORT.

Aristotle's email service began to refuse authentication of our loyal subscribers' email late Tuesday night, August 16th. Although email was received and retained by Aristotle, subscribers could not access their accounts to retrieve their email.

Aristotle technicians have determined that the problem was caused by several Aristotle email customers exceeding an email storage limit of 60,000 emails in their account - the limit set by the Microsoft software used on Aristotle's Vircom email servers.

When the limit was reached on these accounts, the email server software automatically tried to correct the problem. The software assumed all mailboxes were full which caused a series of event failures that complicated the discovery and correction of the email authentication problem.

Sending & Receiving Email

In order to resolve the problem caused by excessive storage, Aristotle is redirecting your new incoming email to another server. You will be able to send and receive email at your Aristotle account; however, for a period of time you will not be able to view your old email left on the server.

Please note that your old email has not been deleted and will be accessible again when Vircom has the excess storage issue resolved.

Aristotle deeply regrets the interruption of services and wishes to thank each and every customer for their patience and understanding. Aristotle will be establishing a limit on the number of emails stored in any one account in order to prevent this type of isolated incident from impacting your email in the future.

If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact Aristotle Customer Service.

Tips on Managing Email

Aristotle recommends that email users manage the volume of their inbox email by downloading email to personal computers, deleting old emails and/or organizing email in archived folders on your computer. WebMail users are recommended to move emails from their inbox into sub-folders. Another way to prevent exceeding this limit is to set up your email account to leave copies of emails on the server for no more than seven days.
